Our Why
As the ACA missions team, we desire to play a part in showing the community of Jericho Ministries the love and value they have as children of God. Being able to share the gospel with them is an incredible privilege, and we hope to make a real difference in their lives. As a whole, we hope to not only impact, but be impacted through the work of Jericho Ministries. This will be an eye-opening experience for all of us that will strengthen our relationship with God, each other, and the kids. We hope that this trip will inspire others to follow the path that the Lord has called us to. |

About Our Mission TripAirdrie Christian Academy students will be travelling to Jericho Ministries in Tegucigalpa, Honduras to spend 8 days at the Jericho Villa working with children who have been rescued from very traumatic experiences with poverty and human trafficking.
At ACA our vision is to equip and disciple generations for Christ, and mission trips are an integral part of teaching our students to know love and serve the Lord at school, at home, in our communities and to the ends of the earth. Mission trips have many benefits to our school and community, but even more importantly to the students who travel and learn to share the love that Christ has put in their hearts. Jesus told us that even He came to serve and not be served and give his life in ransom for many (Matt 20:28). Therefore we, as disciples of Christ, are privileged to do the same. |

BABYSITTING SERVICE
Hi, I’m Chloe, a 17-year-old babysitter in Grade 12 with experience working with children as young as 1 year old. I’ve helped with my mom’s day home and worked with kids when I was in Grade 5 to Grade 9 for several years. I also worked with kids in the school last year and am joining the school on a missions trip. I absolutely love caring for little ones! I’ll be turning 18 in February.
DETAILS
If you're looking for a trustworthy and caring babysitter, feel free to reach out. I look forward to meeting you and your little ones! |
Jericho Ministries
The children of Jericho live in a beautiful home in the country outside the Honduran Capital city, Tegucigalpa. These children were rejected by their parents and often abused in their communities, and absolutely love it when groups visit from different countries and “choose” to help in their healing process. It is always a mutual blessing for our students to connect with these children and share stories, work hard and have fun together. |

ACA Team Projects from Previous Years
2024THE HEALING GARDEN
The "healing garden" project is designed to be a community space between the girls houses to provide an area to have special events such as birthdays, staff reunions and other special events; and it is also designed to provide a seating outdoor space for the staff at the villa. The healing garden is part of the landscaping projects at Jericho Villa and its named "the healing garden" to commemorate the 2nd healing of Elizabeth Hake, Jericho Ministries Director.

2023Don Mauricio is the gatekeeper at the Villa. His house was not sufficient and his family had recently moved in to his one room shack with him. The goal was for our team to help rebuild the home for this family.

Going to Honduras, I was nervous, I wasn’t sure how God was going to work, and how I would be able to make a difference in the kids' lives. I am forever grateful that did not stop me from going, as in my time there I was not only able to understand and experience genuine joy, not just temporary happiness, but honest joy. One of my prayers in the preparation for this trip was that I would make a lasting change in the lives of the children, but also be changed by them also, and God definitely answered that prayer. In seeing how joyful and genuine those children were, my heart, and mentality was forever changed. I realised that although I may go through my own trials and difficulties at home, joyfulness is not something that is dependent on the situation, joyfulness is a choice, and now being back at home, I know that everyday I have the power to choose to be joyful.

When I first arrived at Jericho, I had no idea how much of a profound impact the ministry would have on me. These leaders created such a beautiful environment where the kids could flourish and be themselves. Seeing the joy and the love that these kids have was so amazing to me. It was so inspiring to see how God can work miracles through the lives of these children and it was such an honour to witness it firsthand.

My time at Jericho was life changing. In my time there, I learned what it means to be a true man of God, and interacting with the children opened my eyes up to see just how much God loves all of us as his children. The amount of joy that they displayed and sowed into my own life is monumental, and the smiles that our team received everyday without fail will be forever ingrained into my heart. I can’t stop smiling, Jericho is a place of joy and I wish every student had the opportunity to go, as this is one of the most important things I think I’ve ever been able to do! I’m not the same person as when I left, and I know that nobody on our team is either.

Helping around the villa and being able to be a brotherly and fatherly presence to kids that are missing those aspects in their lives made it worth it. The kids there have been through so many things that I cannot even imagine going through. Yet they are still able to express real joy and God’s love. Through this experience, God taught me how to be content and be at peace. Here in a more Western society, it's always about the hustle and I’ve always felt burnt out living day to day life, but at the villa there is a real holy peace. And although our team impacted the kids, the kids also impacted us through showing us how God can make good and bring hope out of any situation. Other than that, it was also just a very fun and exciting trip.

Jericho Ministries has changed my life and opened my heart to know what it truly means to serve. The girls there have inspired me to always choose forgiveness, joy, and love- to live unafraid and completely held by the Holy Spirit! I will forever be thankful for the opportunity ACA offers to go on this trip, and for the experiences and spiritual growth that will be cherished in my heart for a lifetime. Jericho is Holy ground, and if you feel called to go on this trip ABSOLUTELY go for it!!! The Lord has amazing things in store!

Honduras was really an eye opening experience for me and showed me a whole new side of the world and of my team. I personally saw how the kids impacted us in marvellous ways. These little girls had so much joy in them and a want to build a connection with our team. In these friendships we made I saw how we were affected and a switch in our openness towards things of the spirit. I was a witness to people my age being changed and truly learning what it meant to be grateful and full of joy to the point we are overflowing with God's love. The most precious moment of the whole trip was Easter Sunday where we got to not only see the children perform songs for us, but we also got a chance to get prayed over. The spirit was moving and one of the leaders prayed over me and I have never felt more happiness emanating from a group of people.

Before our team left for our trip to Jericho, Mrs. Young told me she thought that being in Honduras was the time for me to let go of everything that happened to me in the past. At first, I didn’t see how I could possibly just let everything go because it affected me so much in my day to day life. I would get flashbacks and would spend nights crying over everything I've experienced and I did not understand how all of that could just be gone by giving it to God. I tried my best to be happy most days but I would step away from everyone sometimes to calm myself if I suddenly became sad.
When I got to the villa, everything changed as soon as I saw those kids' faces. They were all so joyful and excited all the time despite the terrible times they have faced in their lives. It was a wake up call for me because if these kids could find a way to be happy after what they have experienced, then so could I.
One day I was sitting at the chapel by myself and I asked God if he thinks it is time for me to move on from my past and not let it define me anymore, then please give me a sign. I needed to clearly know that it was time. Not long after everyone came down to the chapel and we were all worshipping and I saw this huge fire on the horizon that couldn’t be missed. I knew that was my sign. A few minutes later we all gathered around the cross praising Jesus and I decided to lay all my burdens at the feet of Jesus and as I did that my spirit became so much lighter and for the first time in my life, I truly felt the love of Jesus encapsulating me. As soon as I gave it all to Jesus, the fire on the horizon died. That was the moment I knew that I would never deny the Lord again.

Being at Jericho really helped me to see God and what He was trying to do to me. He revealed a lot of things that I had refused to surrender to Him, showing me why I needed these issues to be given to Him, as they were interfering with His plan for me. Being able to make connections with the staff and children in Honduras also made me realize that even in the roughest of times, individuals can be at their happiest because God’s love shines through all situations.

I originally was not planning on going on this trip, but when choosing my options I decided to do the missions trip. On Easter Sunday, we were invited up to the front to break off chains in our life. I had been struggling with sin and depression in my life. So I came up, I talked about it, Mrs. Young, Elvia, and Noah prayed for me, and that has been a turning point in my life. God is working in me to change me.

Honduras was a really great experience for me, and I was really blessed by those children. From their beautiful smiles to their warm hugs, those kids really thawed the stone cold heart that I brought with me into Honduras. I will forever be grateful to them and to God for the work that was done in me!
